Helping Artists Build Brands, Not Just Merch

Why I Do This

I studied Fine Arts before I studied design systems. That background keeps me connected to creative communities in a way that matters to me. Not charity. A practice that exercises completely different muscles than product work.

Most emerging artists who want to sell work or build an audience face the same wall: they lack the visual infrastructure to look credible. ArtsGaze is a platform working to close that gap, and I joined as Design Lead to guide the visual identity and branding strategy.

How I Approached It

Mentoring, Not Just Delivering

I work with two designers on branding direction, storytelling, and engagement. My role is to give them ownership of decisions while keeping the work coherent. This is closer to design management than design execution. That's intentional.

Each artist collaboration starts with long conversations about their practice, inspirations, and audience. I treat every engagement as a mini brand strategy project: understand what the artist is actually trying to say before I design anything.

Systems, Not One-Offs

Rather than designing individual assets, I build flexible visual systems for each artist: typography pairings, color palettes, layout templates, and production-ready files they can modify themselves. The goal is to build capability, not dependency.

This philosophy is the same one behind Orchid. The best systems are the ones people can extend without you.

Designing Within Real Constraints

Every design accounts for manufacturing reality: printing methods, material costs, minimum order quantities. Artists operating on tight budgets can't afford a beautiful design that's impractical to produce.

What Came of It

ArtsGaze stats as of February 2025 — 6 artists, 16+ products, 300+ followers
As of February 2025
  • 6 artists featured on the platform, with 20+ artists in the pipeline
  • 16+ unique products launched as artist merchandise
  • 300+ followers engaging with ArtsGaze across platforms
  • Ongoing partnerships with physical and digital vendors expanding reach

The most rewarding moments in this work are when an artist takes the system I built and makes something I couldn't have predicted. That's the exact feeling I'm chasing with every design system I build. If a system only produces what I imagined, I've failed.
